Having won serveral Contest the Houston County band was not so lucky this last weekend as they competed against 29 other class 1 bands in the state taking the 22nd spot in the contest but they won the heart of the people of Houston County as as in most things they were winners just by competing.

THE PRIDE OF THE EMERALD ISLE
On a warn fall day Houston County band competed in a contest in Waverly Tn. after all was said and done they only won 2nd place having been first in the last six contest. as to their performance it was flawless so who knows what divided second from first only the judges. As usual staff was on hand to take a few photo and we will play the video on chanel 12 next week where you can be the judge.

As the Kick off breakfast ended the largest snow in tennessee this year was just starting but not before a tree was planted in Rail Road park for Arbor day. The photo were taken at both the Kick off breakfast and the one where the tree was planted . We would like to thank Lori Pendegrass for the many photos she provided of which without this series of photos would not be complete.

BLOW YOUR HORN
What Houston County lacks in size it makes up in spirit. This Last Saturday The Houston County Marching Band traveled to Murfreesboro Tn to compete in the state band contest unlike in the other contest they traveled in style on a chartered bus paid for out of band booster funds. The trip was pleasant and the band arrived rested and ready for what lay ahead at 2:15 they took the field did their Who Dunit routine and then it was wait and see until the rest of the 28 bands who had been going through their routine since 8am that morning finished finally it was over and the top 10 band names were called of which ours was named in the top 10 a break was called till 6:45 pm when the second round of competion would start. Of those 10 The Irish finished 8th so when you see a band member be sure and congradulate then they deserve it for all the hard work they have put in all year.Read More......

WHAT A WEEK END
High school wins first game of the season against Montgomery central 34-33, Band wins first place at Waverly in their category second win of the year. Jr Pro majors win their first game of the season against Waverly 30-8 Minors win 24-0 while the pewees loose second game with a score14-8. I am working on about 2000 pictures so stay tuned. BEST PLACE ON EARTH
This last week members of the Houston County band Cheer leaders and teachers and
friends gathered at the home of Valerie Dennis a teacher at Houston County
middle school. Mrs Denis had just finished a series of Cancer radiation
treatments following a double mastectomy. The treatments are to erase any
possible cancer cells. As the story goes what Valerie had made a statement on
completion of her treatments it would be neat if she was greeted with the band
and cheerleaders many who were or had been former students. Quietly and not
known by Valerie her mom Carolynn Barker and members of the
community went about making this a reality. , The band played serveral music selections as the cheerleader put on a few cheers afterward Mrs Valerie hugged each and every one of them. Larry Barker Mrs Valerie's dad was
heard to say this is the greatest place on earth to live and this was surely the
best medicine for Valerie . Welcome Home Mrs Denis your student are eagerly
awaiting your return.
