IRISH EYES ARE SMILING... AND THE WEATHER IS LOOKING GOOD, TOO!

By TERESA SETTLE NORRIS

The third Saturday in March is Erin's finest hour, and a day bigger than Christmas. But for this small Irish town, where thousands flock each year, weather in March can prove to be a challenge. In all its 48 years, there have been some very cold Irish days, there's been snow, and there's even been dangerous thunderstorms.
But this year... the weather promises to be exceptional... According to weather reporting stations, the high could reach 70, and there's only a slight chance of rain in the late afternoon.
So if you've never been to the Irish Celebration, this is the year to come. This year's theme, compliments of Houston County High School student Hope Perrigo is “Unspoiled; Unchanged; Simply Irish!” The festivities begin early, with a hot breakfast at Erin Cumberland Presbyterian Church, beginning at 6 a.m.
The Leprechaun parade begins at 10:30 a.m., and the grand parade, sure to last a good two hours, will begin at 11 a.m.
Don't forget the carnival, downtown vendors, food booths, and lots of musical entertainment.
And best of all, if you come to Erin on the third Saturday in March from out of town, you are OFFICIALLY Irish for a day...
So what are you waiting for? Grab your green... Google the directions, and we'll see you there!

We want to thank the town of Erin for letting us us visit and enjoy your Irish Day Celebration. We enjoyed the parade, vendor/booths and meeting the people of Erin. The people are so friendly. We were introduced to the city mayor and also the county mayor. They both seemed to be down to earth people and proud of their city and county. The day was very entertaining and the weather was great.
It's nice to know that "there is still a little bit of Mayberry in America."
God bless Erin and America.
