WHAT A DAY! LUCK OF THE IRISH HOLDS TRUE

From carnival day2009

By TERESA SETTLE NORRIS

Tennessee Express News Writer
* The weather was perfect.
* The parade was possibly the longest ever.
* And the number of people in Erin from one end of town to the other clearly broke records for the 47th annual Irish Celebration.
* Yes, it was a great day to be Irish on the third Saturday of March 2009. Well before the 11 a.m. parade start, people from near and far were wandering through the streets of Erin, stopping at craft booths, food vendors, and the carnival.
* As the parade got underway, thousands stretched from the west end of Main Street near the parade beginning at Houston County Middle School all the way through town past the Courthouse where the parade route ended.
* The parade, lasting almost two hours, included floats, bands, cars, tractors, Shriners, beauty pageant winners, police cars, and fire trucks, to name just a few.
* Whether it was your first time to experience Irish Day--like Anita Wilson of Clarksville, who vowed to return next year with her grandchildren--or you were here for the first-ever Irish Day way back in 1963--like Cass Rye of Rye’s N Shine Market in Cumberland City--there was fun awaiting everyone this year.
* After the parade, there was so much more to choose from doing, including the carnival, browsing, eating, listening to music, and even attending a demolition derby.
* Stay tuned for MUCH MORE coverage, including the following
* PART TWO: PARADE
* PART THREE: DUBLIN VISITORS COME TO STAY
* PART FOUR: LOCAL BUSINESSES… OLD AND NEW
* PART FIVE: PATTY O’BLARNEYSTONE, ST. PATRICK
* PART FIVE: VENDORS AND VISITORS
* PART SIX: CARNIVAL, OTHER FUN
* PART SEVEN: MUSIC AND FOOD

IRISH DAY 2008

LUCK OF THE IRISH HOLDS OUT
ALTHOUGH WEATHER HINDERS SOME
By TERESA SETTLE NORRIS
Tennessee Express News Writer
* Irish Day 2008 broke with an ominous thunderstorm and heavy rains, but by parade time, things couldn’t have been more perfect.
* This year’s crowd, however, was quite a bit thinner than last year, due partly to impending rain which tapered off by mid-morning, leaving behind clear skies for the big Irish Day Parade on Saturday, March 15.
* Must have been the Luck of the Irish, working overtime, according to lots of locals, who were just pleased that the hour-and-a-half parade stayed dry up until the very last few participants.
*Then it only sprinkled for about 30 more minutes, and people didn’t seem to mind as they went from booth-to-booth, or to the carnival, or to just visit with their Irish neighbors.
* The temperature even cooperated, with many people enjoying short-sleeves or light jackets.
* Weather withstanding, the day went ALMOST without a hitch…
* Stay tuned for the following IRISH DAY features:

* Couple Arrested for Leaving Baby In Locked Car

* Residents Rally Around Couple

* Music Venues Bring Entertainment to Erin

* Around Town: A Few “First” This Year

CHRISTMAS IN HOUSTON COUNTY

The Erin Christmas parade although small is as always well attended by the people of Houston County. This year there was music on the Erin square prior to the parade and for a short time there after. Then there was santa at city hall, the Houston County marching band and the country ham give away. The float winners this year was 1st place went to the Houston County Rec Club 2nd Place went to the city of Erin and finaly 3rd place was the Houston County leadership class. The parade did have a late start because of a time error seems the band had been told a diffrent time than was posted but this was a small handicap and all went well and the parade was over by 5:25 pm.
