WHAT A DAY! LUCK OF THE IRISH HOLDS TRUE

From carnival day2009

By TERESA SETTLE NORRIS

Tennessee Express News Writer
* The weather was perfect.
* The parade was possibly the longest ever.
* And the number of people in Erin from one end of town to the other clearly broke records for the 47th annual Irish Celebration.
* Yes, it was a great day to be Irish on the third Saturday of March 2009. Well before the 11 a.m. parade start, people from near and far were wandering through the streets of Erin, stopping at craft booths, food vendors, and the carnival.
* As the parade got underway, thousands stretched from the west end of Main Street near the parade beginning at Houston County Middle School all the way through town past the Courthouse where the parade route ended.
* The parade, lasting almost two hours, included floats, bands, cars, tractors, Shriners, beauty pageant winners, police cars, and fire trucks, to name just a few.
* Whether it was your first time to experience Irish Day--like Anita Wilson of Clarksville, who vowed to return next year with her grandchildren--or you were here for the first-ever Irish Day way back in 1963--like Cass Rye of Rye’s N Shine Market in Cumberland City--there was fun awaiting everyone this year.
* After the parade, there was so much more to choose from doing, including the carnival, browsing, eating, listening to music, and even attending a demolition derby.
* Stay tuned for MUCH MORE coverage, including the following
* PART TWO: PARADE
* PART THREE: DUBLIN VISITORS COME TO STAY
* PART FOUR: LOCAL BUSINESSES… OLD AND NEW
* PART FIVE: PATTY O’BLARNEYSTONE, ST. PATRICK
* PART FIVE: VENDORS AND VISITORS
* PART SIX: CARNIVAL, OTHER FUN
* PART SEVEN: MUSIC AND FOOD
PART EIGHT: WHAT WENT WRONG
